The boat house, Osney Island, Oxford

This project replaces a dishevelled single storey garage in the Osney Town Conservation Area, and our concept emerged from working very closely and productively with the Oxford City Council conservation team and through dialogue with local residents.

This is a small, but high quality residence:  A one bedroom house which exploits every opportunity to disguise the narrowness of the site, and which is designed to respect and enhance the conservation area with its close attention to detailing, quality of materials, and by adding diversity.

The house is constructed completely in timber, and incorporates a full palate of effective low energy principles.  With it’s highly-insulated and air-tight envelope,  heat recovery natural ventilation,  rainwater harvesting; and insulated under-floor heating throughout, it’s energy costs are extremely low despite our recent abnormally long winters.
