Located in the midst of the Abingdon Town Centre Conservation Area, the site is in one of the oldest, continuously settled areas of the UK with local archaeological records going back to the bronze age.
We worked very closely with the Vale of White Horse Planning and Conservation Officers, its Architectural Advisory Panel, English Heritage, and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.(CABE).
We undertook significant pre-application consultation in the lead up to submitting a detailed planning application to demolish the existing 1960’s building on the site, and to build a new ground floor supermarket with 14 new apartments above.
The scheme incorporated communal gas fired heating, heat recovery ventilation, and rainwater harvesting systems, and along with super insulation in working toward the highest Eco-Homes rating at the time.
Our approach was successful in achieving the planning and conservation area consents we applied for.
